I hate the term ‘one size fits all’ - it's just not true.
For a start, the size of your head is not the only consideration, it's also the shape.
Someone with a wide head may have the same head circumference as someone with a thin head shape.
Therefore both the size and the shape of your head have to be considered.
Size
Style: 001 has an adjuster that will allow a comfortable fit for heads between 57cm and 61cm in circumference.
If the adjuster has 5 holes showing and only held together with 1 peg, then your head is too big for the cap.
If you have a smaller head you could peg it 1 or 2 holes tighter but beyond this the cap is too big for you.
Shape
To help adjust between head shapes, Jay’s Caps have a mid curved visor with a slightly shallower inner curve that allows greater flexibility when fitting to the shape of your head.
People with thinner heads will naturally know that a more curved visor will suit them, likewise a person with a wider head hopefully knows that a flatter visor is more for them. The thickness and composition of the polyester inside the visor has been chosen to help the wearer bend and form the visor to suit and hold to the desired shape.
Then, there is the second inner curve to consider, the one that wraps around your forehead. Every cap manufacturer I know overlooks this small but crucial detail and use a circular curve on their templates. Is your head round? No. My visors have a shallower curve that tapers to a tighter curve at the edges. This means a Jay’s Cap is more fitted regardless of whether you choose to wear your cap with a flatter or more curved visor shape. It’s all in the details.
How to measure your head
Take a length of string (that’s not elasticated in any way) and tie a knot in one end.
Hold this to the middle of your forehead and wrap it comfortably around your head.
Pinch with your fingernail where the other end meets the knot.
Hold this to a ruler and note down the size, this will be the inside circumference of your cap.
Another simple way to measure your head
Get a cap that already fits you well.
Slip one end of the string through the end hole in the plastic adjuster.
Thread the string through up to the knot.
Put the cap on your head and run the other end of the string along the underside of the cap.
Pinch it when you come back around to the knot.
Tell me your head size!
I am trying to collate information about head sizes so that I can further perfect my caps. If you have always struggled to find a cap that fits well then I need your help. Simply let me know your head circumference and shape (thin, regular, wide) using the online form.
